How the Penny Score works

Every Home Depot clearance item gets a Penny Score from 0–100 indicating how likely it is to get pulled to penny pricing (or already is one). The score blends five signals:

  • Cents-ending stage — .02/.03 (final) > .04/.06 (second markdown)
  • Days-at-price overdue — past the observed clock for its stage
  • Discount depth — deeper cuts correlate with end-of-cycle
  • Stock level — 1–3 units left signals pull-imminent
  • Inventory age — items held >6 months tend to transition

Score 90+ = hot penny candidate. Score 70+ = watch closely. Anything at .01 gets an automatic 100.
