Walmart Clearance Items: What 1,611 Online Listings Show (2026)
Search “Walmart clearance” and you get the same advice everywhere: check the back of the store, look for yellow tags, scan items in the app. That is about in-store clearance, which varies store by store and never shows up online.
Walmart.com has its own clearance section, and it behaves very differently. We track it every day, along with about 110 other Walmart deal searches across departments. In the week ending September 30, 2026, Walmart’s online clearance search returned 1,611 live listings. This post is what those listings, and 90 days of their price history, show.
One boundary up front: everything here is Walmart.com. Store shelf clearance is set locally and is not in this data, so we make no claims about it.
Walmart’s online clearance is mostly clothing
We sorted the 1,611 clearance listings by what the product actually is:
| Type | Listings | Share | Median discount | Median price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apparel | 1,404 | 87% | 55% | $5.35 |
| Shoes | 20 | 1% | 40% | $12.97 |
| Everything else | 187 | 12% | about 50% | about $7 |
Nearly nine out of ten items in Walmart’s online clearance are clothes: dresses, shirts, leggings, kids’ sets, socks. The median item costs $5.35 and is 55% off.
That is useful to know in both directions. If you shop Walmart clothing, the clearance section is deep and cheap. If you came looking for electronics, furniture, or appliances on clearance, the clearance section is the wrong place to look. In our data those discounts show up in category searches instead (next section).
What to do with this: for anything that is not clothing, search the category and sort by price, or filter by discount, rather than browsing the clearance page.
Where the non-clothing deals are
Across the other Walmart searches we run, a week of live discounted listings looked like this, by the search that surfaced them:
| Search | Listings | Median discount | Median saving | Median price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fragrance | 61 | 35.8% | $26 | $39.98 |
| Luggage | 50 | 36.4% | $33 | $68.44 |
| Mattress | 43 | 31.4% | $96 | $184.00 |
| Cookware | 37 | 37.2% | $30 | $79.00 |
| Bikes | 40 | 21.5% | $40 | $128.00 |
| Monitors | 36 | 21.8% | $50 | $169.64 |
| Office chairs | 35 | 19.7% | $27 | $99.99 |
| Grills | 32 | 12.7% | $27 | $190.00 |
The percentages are lower than clearance, but the dollars are higher: a median $96 off a mattress versus a few dollars off a clearance shirt. Luggage, cookware, and fragrance are the categories where a real discount and a real dollar saving line up.
A caution that applies to all of these: Walmart.com mixes its own listings with marketplace sellers, and a marketplace “was” price is whatever the seller typed. Treat a big percentage from a third-party seller with suspicion, and compare against what the same item sells for elsewhere.
Clearance prices are percentage math, not round numbers
Look at a Walmart clearance price and it is often a strange number: $7.56, $10.09, $14.26. That is not a code. It is what you get when a percentage comes off a regular price. $7.56 is exactly 37% off $12.
We checked the price endings:
- Only 18% of online clearance prices end in .00, .97, .98 or .99.
- Among discounted items outside the clearance section, 52% do.
- The single most common clearance discount is 37% off (8.7% of listings), followed by 57%, 50%, 40%, and 55%.
So an odd-cents price online is a hint that you are looking at a computed markdown rather than a set price. There is a lot of folklore about Walmart shelf-tag endings meaning something in store. We cannot test that from online data, and the online prices do not follow any ending pattern beyond “it was a percentage.”
The markdown ladder: small steps, about 10% each
Over the last 90 days we logged every Walmart price change we saw:
- 3,675 products took at least one price drop.
- 668 dropped two or more times, and 201 dropped three or more times.
- The median single drop was 10% off the previous price.
- Items that dropped three or more times ended at an average of 60% off their regular price.
A real ladder from the log, a women’s tiered midi dress with a $38 regular price: $16.49, then $14.26, then $13.19, then $10.70, then $8.61, then $8.28. Six prices, no single cut bigger than about 20%.
That shape matters for timing. An item on its first clearance price will usually get cheaper. An item already on its fourth or fifth step is close to the floor, and the popular sizes may already be gone.
A workflow that fits the data
- Use the clearance section for clothing. That is what it is, and it is deep: 55% off at a median of about $5.
- Use category searches for everything else. Mattresses, luggage, cookware, and monitors show real discounts outside clearance.
- Read the ladder, not the price. Clearance steps down about 10% at a time. Early on, wait. After three or four steps, buy.
- Check the seller. A marketplace listing’s “was” price is not Walmart’s.
- Remember online is not in-store. Store clearance is local and is not visible on Walmart.com.
We track this automatically. The live list of the biggest current Walmart discounts is at Walmart deals, and any Walmart product’s price history is on the Walmart price tracker. Frequently Asked Questions
What is in Walmart’s online clearance section?
Mostly clothing. In our September 2026 data, 87% of Walmart.com clearance listings were apparel, with a median price of $5.35 and a median discount of 55%.
How much does Walmart clearance go down?
Online clearance prices step down about 10% at a time. Items that took three or more markdowns in the last 90 days ended at an average of 60% below their regular price.
Do Walmart clearance prices end in a special number?
Not online. Walmart.com clearance prices are mostly a percentage taken off the regular price, so they end in odd cents like $7.56 or $10.09. Only 18% end in .00, .97, .98 or .99. We cannot speak to in-store shelf tags from online data.
Does Walmart.com show in-store clearance?
Not reliably. In-store clearance is set by each store, and the Walmart.com clearance section is its own set of online markdowns. A low price you see online may not match your store’s shelf, and store clearance often never appears online.
What is the best Walmart category for discounts besides clothing?
By dollars saved, mattresses, luggage, cookware, fragrance, and monitors. Their percentages are lower than clothing clearance, but the savings per item are much larger.
